Maurice le Fou

Maurice le fou hails from far away lands, coming and going as the wind to share his talent with the world. Always ready to assist the less fortunate, Maurice will do his best to advocate for those who cannot do this themselves. Growing up, he was taught all the important things in life. Taking care of others, standing up for justice, but most of all, the magical world of entertainment.

Soon disaster struck and his dad passed away due to an invisible illness. From that moment on, being the eldest of 2 siblings, he knew he had to step up to the plate and take care of his family. He worked hard day in day out to provide for his mother and brother while in the evenings he would write stories about the grand adventures he would like to have.

One day, at a point where his family was self sufficient, he decided it was time to embark on a journey like he had never undertaken before. this was around the same time the Grand Duke died. The lands engulfed in turmoil, Maurice knew he had to assist as much as he can. He made his way to hohenburg to cheer up the crowds and make sure no one, no one at all, would be taken advantage off.

Session 1

7th day of the 2nd month, 1411 DF

Today was a little weird. I went to the bakery downtown to grab some breakfast when the owners were attacked by the local thieves guild; no direct relation to BC. People seemed like good people and I decided to lend a hand. Getting more connected to the locals will help me in the long run.

I gave up my coin and room at the inn to help our paladins mother be safe and taken care off. Need to remember to say thanks to Gerrey for their discretion and trust. They have been a good ally for me so far, would not want to lose this.

The paladin, named Seris took us to meet the local general, Wulfe, (introduced myself to him afterwards, seems like a good person to know) to gather information on the criminal matchmaker Snake; also no direct relation to BC as far as I know.

.... Trust seems to be established well enough, and we ventured on to an old village. Managed to infiltrate the base without many issues, sadly S. got a little trigger happy, which is understandable after all she's gone through, but still, and got the gang alerted. After taking a few blows (will definitely bruise tomorrow) we managed to take down and/or restrain them. The sole survivor was the person named Snake, not sure if that's their real name or an alter ego. I will have to ask my contacts. In the house I was able to gain a gem. I will sell this to send to L. Must be able to find a way to get a care package to him but don't want to break my...

Surprisingly the group didn't seem to be bothered by me trying to take more than I was owed. Hopefully one day I can explain. Not sure if everyone in the group would be welcoming of my past, MC seems relatively judgmental. One day I can win her over, I am sure.

So far no sign of anyone related to Ilyagrad, plan seems to have worked. Hope L. is ok. I miss him. Mom, watch over him, if you are out there somewhere.

Good night. M.

another thing, I had the weirdest dream last night. We went on the hunt to find some long lost recipe for apple pie which took us back to the weird village where we captured snake dude earlier. we ended up finding this old bakery called the baky flake, very funny, i know. the bakery was over run by goblins and we had to fight our way through to get to the recipe, which was split in half, weirdly enough. but we found the recipe after talking to some dryads and fighting some goblins. then Eryk appeared and we found some yummy foods and some drinks, they weren't very good sadly, but hey, lessons learned right? this reminded me of when me and L. used to just run around town being stupid and trying all the hings we could find. was a good time, i miss this a lot., hopefully soon i will be able to be reunited with him and we can have more of this. we then spoke to a treant which is like a tree with a weird face on it. The treant ended up giving us some of the fruits and we took the fruits to the flaky bake where we made the best apple pie ever. anyway, then i woke up, without my brother but ready for another day of adventure.

Session 2

---- Excerpt from diary ---

8th day of the 2nd month, 1411 DF

Today I woke, Strangely not fully rested, in the morning, greeted by the smell of fresh breakfast being prepared downstairs. I stayed in the bakery overnight, it was a nice change from sleeping in a tavern. I felt strangely safe, even though I was surrounded by people I have only just met. Snake, his real name is Wes, was still in lock up and everyone seemed to have recovered a little from the day before. Seris was very eager to interrogate Snake and started questioning him. He seemed to be under some sort of enchantment or curse and couldn't actually give up any information (Will need to research this kind of magic, might be useful) but I managed to get some information about the local thieves guild out of him. We know where to go if we would want to meet the people running the Ceel guild. It is strange though, I've been running for soo long yet everything always seems to be coming back to these guilds. Eryk had a little moment with Wes as well.. it was a bit strange, almost as if a darker side came out for a second.. Seris wanted to pretend nothing happened so I left it alone. We decided that, in order to best prepare for the coming adventure, we would head to the local market district and do some shopping. Sadly, on the way there we were rudely interrupted by local thieves or pickpockets. They weren't very experienced and not very good at all. Rather than successfully stealing anything they sadly lost their lives. I have seen this before, these guilds require young people to do foolish things in the hope they might survive and get initiated into the guild for real. Luckily for me, it went fine and we got away with this insanity but we saw soo many others perish or get captured. Think about L. and the task he was sent on. Why would you ever send someone inexperienced to do something like that?

.... it was for the better though. he is safe now. We went to this magical shop, the workplace of Eryk with the strangest sassy elf wizard. We managed to exchange our gems for store credit and stocked up on supplies. I ended up buying a magical herb bag for Mrs. Chow, I have used up all the gold in L.'s fund but I felt guilty for taking the gem earlier. I will find ways to add more gold to it and send it to L. eventually. Oh, I also have some nice elven made boots now and a potion of poison. hopefully that will come in handy if I need to do some more infiltrating. Signing off for the night, M.

Session 3

---- Excerpt from diary ---

Evening of the 8th day of the 2nd month, 1411 DF

We continued our plan to find out information on who ordered the hit on Seris. We went to the market at night to find the thieves guild and infiltrate it. I don't think everyone in the group trusts me fully so they were against me going in alone. I understand, although it stung a little. I didn't want to bring someone else into a potentially dangerous situation. We decided I would take the young eryk with me. I won't lie, I was afraid he would be a liability. I have a sense that he sometimes struggle with control but, now the day after, he was honestly much more of an asset than I anticipated. Made me think back to a few years back. When me and L. would go out on contract together. I had a strange flashback when we were there together but was luckily able to snap out of it.

We met the leader of the Ceel guild. A man named Sen Miller. he appeared to be a competent leader, Maybe a little too trusting for his own good. Going in, I had certain ideas on how to get the info out of this guy, but I ended up throwing it all away and improvising when he ''recognised'' me as Lynx. Going along with this story we managed to extract the info we needed. Eryk even got some thieves tool training and blew everyone away with his talent. Might be something that he should nurture.

As much as I'd like to say everything went smoothly, that sadly wasn't the case when Mrs chow and Seris spotted someone heading into the hideout behind us. They tried to distract him, sadly unsuccesfully. If only Seris would have let her anger out in an appropriate space for once, things might have been resolved in a safer manner. But alas, Sometimes you just have to take care of business yourself. Thanks to a heads up from Mrs Chow I was able to excuse myself and dispatch of the person (who happened to be the real lynx) and finish off the conversations with Sen.

I won't deny that being back in this world felt good..

----excerpt continues ----

It was strangely exhilarating. I have gained another alter ego to add to my collection so if for some reason the wrong people find out about where I am now, I am sure I have a way out. All this talk about revenge and anger makes me want to find whoever was responsible of the stunt pulled on my brother and hold them accountable but I know I would only put the both of us in danger... it's a hard line to walk. Being away from L. for soo long feels like I have abandoned him. I wish I could check in more but even him mustn't know where I am now.. That would undo everything we..

---excerpt continues---

9th day of the 2nd month, 1411 DF we went to the church in the city to alert whoever the contact was and even though it shouldn't come as a surprise, Seris went Rogue again. I wish I knew why she has soo much hatred and anger in her but control isn't something she is known for. Luckily no scenes were caused and we proceeded to the meeting place in the evening. I would be the spokesperson and I would introduce the rest of the group as my guards. That's where the plan sadly collapsed. The contact recognized Seris immediately and the battle began. We were able to dispatch of the aggressor and apparently they were very important and also Seris' dad? You would think that important information like that would be shared. especially when they are such a dangerous individual. What happened between the 2 of them that caused seris to be this angry?

we succesfully finished off the person who hired the hit on seris and her family but so many other questions arise.

I had some conversations with seris about trust, and the past. I made it clear to her that even though there are things I cannot share, I am not here to harm her or her friends. Maybe when she is more forthcoming, I will be too but with how impulsive she can be, I think it is best to hold up appearances. Signing off. M

Session 4

--- start of excerpt --- What can I say, we aren't very good planners as a team. Very impulsive it seems. This has its perks but from my own experience sometimes it's better to case things out first. Eryk had some disturbing news to share with our group and we decided we had to leave for starlake. For which we had to break into the academy of magic. Now, I am all for a little Breaking and entering but not with soo many liabilities. We ended up instead of scoping out the place, just stealing the item right then and there. Luckily I was able to get Mrs. chow and serys to make a distraction for Eryk and we were able to get out without too much hastle. the item summoned a giant bird.. pretty exciting. Sadly the excitement quickly subsided when we were attacked by pirates.. again on flying birds.. I'm not used to these kind of things. We were able to somewhat smoothly dispatch of the Attackers but not before the young Eryk decided to test his wings and see if he could fly himself.. He obviously couldn't and crashed to the ground. Its this impulsivity that scares me. Mostly because it reminds me of my brother and how he is with these things, but also because it seems like he has a death wish and I would rather not have to put my life on the line for him just yet.. I have too many things to take care off. --- end of excerpt ---

Session 5

-- start of excerpt -- We arrived in starlake. it was quite special seeing this magical place in person. sadly the excitement of seeing new places was quickly overshadowed by something else. I can't believe that he, practically immediately, after I left when straight back to the guild AND got caught.. Does he never listen to what I ask him to do? Well i know the answer to that. I have to get him out here. I can't lose him again. I have some plans set up.. if they work I will send him away with all the gold that I have. we also saw the source of the magical wall. It's crazy that such a simple device can create such a magnificent work of magic. It is very worrying how vulnerable it is though. I didn't trust the head wizard there.. he must be up to other things. Maybe his assistant will know more! Good night!

--end of excerpt --

Session 6

--- start of excerpt --- there is a way to get L out of here. Someone did it before and that means we can do it again. All I need to do is figure out how it worked and then he can be free. I'm soo sorry mom and dad, that I didn't take care of him. I thought I sorted things out but i clearly did not. We will fix this soon.

The whole situation at starlake is a mess. no one is willing to do anything to stop the demon assault. We keep getting sent from person to person without any results. It's like we are in a stalemate. I hope that we can soon find whoever else is in on this sabotage plot. I also hope we can figure out a way to have supplies come in more efficiently. If the demons to siege starlake, We have no way out, no way to sustain ourselves. Whoever is leading these demons must have a pretty good sense of tactics. I'm keeping my ears and eyes open. the sooner we fix this, the sooner I can return to my normal life. ---end of excerpt --
